If
I were to sum up my base intention in my artwork, it is
ACTIVATION. I draw in order to activate things within myself
and other people. When I imagine a new perspective, a new
attitude that I want to explore I draw it.
A
resident British Columbia Canada, I spend my time enjoying
the beauty of nature and the fresh air that surrounds me.
I practice martial arts, hiking, exploring, travelling,
trying new things and enjoying meeting new people. I do
my work on the go as I wander through my beautiful natural
surroundings. I have been doing character drawing since
my shift from abstract artwork in 2000. My abstract work
focused mostly on washes of vibrant and vivid colour which
I enjoyed very much. I felt a need to get back to more focused
and structured drawings and so I resumed my childhood hobby
of pencil/pen drawings and adding a new skill of colouring
and shading using a digital pen with an airbrushing tool
on my computer. While I've worked with paint and coloured
pencils quite a bit, I have found that the computer lends
me the ability to work prolificly without making a big mess
of my work space and allows for portability and work on-the-go.
Japanese
Manga-stye drawing as well as one particular piece from
Picasso were the primary inspirations that caused me to
get into cartoon character artwork of this type. The direction
I've taken in my process has caused a result that seems
to fuse the Japanese and North-American approach to character
drawing creating a more natural looking version of the Manga/Anime
type features. Picasso came first though, I remember seeing
a drawing up in my friend's washroom as a child. It was
just a few lines and at first I couldn't make out what it
was, but then I realised it was a very nice buttox and hip
of a woman done only with 3 lines! I enjoy working with
a style and process that I find to be dynamic, efficient
and passionate. I concentrate my efforts on smooth lines,
colour and composition to create images that are easy on
the eye, yet offer a level of detail and introspection for
the close onlooker.
My
more recent blurbs that I include in some of my comic-type
drawings and also in my artbooks are made to be complimentary
to my drawings, providing a certain perspective of my mind
frame.
I
have three working names right now: Tridian, ONYX and LOKNATH.
I've divided Tridian from the others for the simple reason
that it is a completely different style of work. The use
of the Loknath name in some of my pictures came from a desire
to give special space for some of my more spiritually significant
pieces. It may be that I'll choose to consolidate everything
into one happy name, but until I figure that out it is just
so.
My
interest in human evolution and the innate higher potential
of all beings is what drives me to inspire and empower others.
The sex energy being expressed in my drawings is symbolic
for me of my passion for existence, the beauty of creation,
vitality, spirituality and all of that stuff. It is the
life force that causes us to continue our existence on this
planet. If that isn't reason enough to make sexy drawings
I don't know what is. Not to mention, people tend to like
sexy drawings and the female figure has never gotten old
for me.
Much
of my career time is spent working with children and youth
of all ages. My goal is to help each one unfold their innate
passion for life and empowering them to become their full
and completely realized selves.
